We've put together a whole month worth of events to inspire you to explore our city, get back on your bike, get more involved in changes coming up, and much more!

Tour de Coffee Culture

Monday 1st February - Monday 5th April

Grab a selfie of you out and about on your bike at our handpicked tour hot spots between February 1st and April 5th - and show them to the team at Coffee Culture Five Cross Roads for tour dollars and Coffee Culture goodies! There are also bonus spot prizes from the Bike Waikato team if you post it on Instagram with the hashtag #BikeMonth2021

Visit all Hamilton hotspots before the tour ends to get your own tour tee shirt - or visit all the tour hot spots in ONE DAY to earn your very own Tour de Coffee Culture cycle jersey from Champion Systems.

Boon Art Bike Tour

Friday 5th February - 5.30pm - Hamilton CBD
Saturday 20th February - 2.30pm - Hamilton East

Kirikiriroa is full of beautiful murals thanks to the Boon Street Art Festival! We're running two group rides to appreciate the art we have around our city.

Friday 5th February we'll be touring the sites around the Hamilton CBD, and Saturday 20th February we'll be checking out the murals around Hamilton East!

Both our rides will be at a leisurely pace, children are welcome although we recommend on a cargo bike or bike trailer just due to the distance and that it'll be city riding.

We have limited numbers for this event so please make sure that you RSVP for the Boon Art Bike Tour via our Google Form!

Commuter's Breakfast

Wednesday 10th February - 7am-9am - Garden Place

We're celebrating all our commuter cyclists - so swing past our stall in Garden Place with your bike to get some free food between 7am and 9am.

There are also bonus spot prizes up for grabs if you post a photo at the event on Instagram with the hashtag #BikeMonth2021

Our event is supported by Hamilton City Council and Kaivolution.

Hamilton's Transport Future

Thursday 11th February - 5.30pm - The Long Room, Wintec

Come along and hear about what's going on in the city and what our city could look like in the future.
We'll have an update from Hamilton City Council about Eastern Pathways, the Biking and Micro-Mobility Plan and other biking related projects they have going on in the city.

We'll also have some speakers talking about different visions for what a low-carbon, accessible, future-focused city looks like.

Picnic at the Gardens

Saturday 14th February - 4pm - Hamilton Gardens

Come along to Gourmet in the Gardens and hang out with other cyclists, eat some kai, and enjoy summer in the city!

We're hosting a meet-up - everyone who uses a bike is welcome! (cycling there is not compulsory). You're even welcome to bring your Valentine's date - what could be more romantic than cycling...

The food trucks at Gourmet in the Gardens often sell out so we recommend getting there early - we'll have our flag out so will be easy to spot!

With the recent changes in Covid Alert Levels we are taking a cautious approach and cancelling this event. All our future events are still planned to run, subject further updates in Alert Levels. 

Getting Heard & Getting Help

Regardless of how responsible we are, accidents happen and issues arise. We'll be outlining how to report an incident to the right authorities, make sure your complaint gets actioned effectively, and ways that you can get involved to improve our infrastructure to make cycling safer and more accessible.

Cargo Bike Display

Sunday 28th February - 10am - Claudelands Park

We'll be at Love Your Bike Day this year with a cargo bike display ranging from bike trailers, longtails, e-cargo bikes, Christianias, commercially used bikes, and homemade ones!

In addition to this, we'll also be offering free bike valet for anyone at Love Your Bike Day, and have our Ungap the Map project available for people to add to!

Need to get your bike fixed?

Chainlink at Go Eco

Thursdays & Saturdays - 10am-12pm - Go Eco Carpark, Frankton

Whether you're jumping back on your bike for the first time in a while, have a weird noise when you ride your bike, or just want to get your bike checked out - the Chainlink volunteers are available to help you learn how to do basic repairs and maintenance! If you don't have a bike, but would like one - ask what they have available!

Just like at Go Eco, Chainlink is a free event where you can get your bike up and running again. If you need a new bike, you can check out their collection and they'll help you fix it and take it home!

Back on Your Bike Training

Not been cycling for a while but keen to get back on your bike? We can help you practice the essential skills and give you some indispensable tips. Perfect revision before starting out on the Hamilton roads.

We will cover:

  • Pre-ride safety check
  • Be safe be seen
  • How to stop in an emergency
  • Where to ride safely when on the road.

We will be learning together at the park before we do a short group ride on the road to safely practice our skills. Maximum number is 10 for each ride so please make sure you fill out the registration form.

Beneficial coaching for all riders to learn new bike skills & confidence on pedal bikes. Cost $2 per session - free for all new riders (non-members) during February. Bike & Helmet hire available $2 per item

Hamilton has a range of cycle paths and cycle lanes across the city. To help you use these bike paths safely we have designed a range of different park and neighbourhood rides to help improve your confidence while cycling. These are also a great opportunity to meet like-minded Hamiltonians who share a passion for cycling our great river city.

Grade 1: Park Ride

These sessions will be held in a park session and aimed at adults who want to gain confidence around biking on city pathways, roads and trails. If you haven’t been on a bike in a while then this session is for you! 

We’ll go over:
- How to correctly check and fit your helmet
- What to look for when doing a bike safety check
- Improved balance on a bike 
- Some braking techniques
- How to use gears
- How to correctly give signals 
This course runs from 6pm to 7.00pm (dates and locations below) and will be facilitated by a qualified instructor.

- Tuesday 16 February - Minogue Park (end of Walsh St)   
- Wednesday 17 February - Innes Common (in front of Waikato Hockey Centre)

Grade 2: Neighbourhood Ride

These sessions give you the chance to explore your own backyard and discover pathways that connect your neighbourhood. These rides are for adults who are confident on their bike but would like to increase their skills for riding on shared pathways and local rides. 
We’ll go over:
- Basic biking skills
- Riding on shared paths and quiet roads
- Positions, passing side roads and parked cars 
- Intersections and roundabouts
This course runs from 6pm to 7.30pm (dates and locations below) and will be facilitated by a qualified instructor.

- Tuesday 23 February - Hayes Common
- Thursday 25 February - Innes Common (in front of Waikato Hockey Centre)

Women & Girl’s Mountain Bike Ride

Come and join us for a have-a-go mountain bike session at Pukete. Run in partnership with Hamilton City Council and delivered by Sean Christian & Dianne Roger, this session is specifically designed for Women & Girls to provide some tips and tricks, build confidence on your bike and connect with other riders!

Meet us at Pukete Mountain Bike Park - Maui Street, 9am on Saturday 27th Feb.
