Who is Bike Waikato and What do we do?
We are everyday people who love the freedom of riding a bike.
Bike Waikato (formerly Cycle Action Waikato) is your local bike group working to make Hamilton, Waipa, Waikato District and the surrounding villages and areas one of the most bike-friendly regions in New Zealand. We want to work with you, hear your voice and advocate on your behalf.
How are we doing this?
By building relationships. With cyclists, local councils, the community, families, NZTA and anyone else who has an interest in cycling in the Waikato region.
We work alongside local and regional councils, NZTA and other organisations to advise on best-practice for bike-friendly designs.
We instigated #ungapthemap to run a community-led bike map creation project, informing councils of existing cycle infrastructure gaps and communicating cyclists future needs across the network.
We promote a connected cycling community through events, groups and activities to encourage more people to cycle, as part of their everyday life.
Is to work with the community to make you feel safer riding around your town or city. Whether you cycle to work, bike to school, enjoy a family bike ride on the weekend, or are thinking about getting on a bike, we want to hear from you.
From the serious cyclist to the person who might get out and about once a year, your opinion matters. Your voice helps us to work with organisations within the community to shape cycling for our region.
